AAANY Internship Opportunities: Spring 2015

 

Development Internship

The Development Internship provides an excellent opportunity to get hands-on experience with a dynamic non-profit working with the Arab immigrant community. This is excellent preparation for a career in nonprofit management, fundraising and work in immigrant or low-income urban communities. The intern will have the opportunity to learn about grant reporting requirements and play an integral role in helping the organization achieve its goals.

Duration: January 2015-June 2015  

Responsibilities include:

Start date and hours: Expected start date is January 5th, 2015.  Applicants are expected to commit at least 15 hours/week. Times and hours are flexible. AAANY is committed to developing the internship program that fits the needs of each intern. Further opportunities, such as professional development and networking with area professionals, are available.

Communications and Marketing Internship

The Communications Internship provides an excellent opportunity to get hands on experience with a dynamic non-profit working with the Arab immigrant community. This is excellent preparation for individuals interested in pursuing a career in journalism, advocacy, design. Interns should be creative thinkers with an eye for aesthetics and a knack of innovation.

Duration: January 2015-June 2015

Citizenship Program Internship

The Arab American Association of New York is looking for a dedicated and qualified applicant to lead the expansion of our Citizenship Test Preparation Program. As Citizenship Program Intern, you will have the opportunity to engage with all areas of our program, including community outreach, curriculum development, class instruction and volunteer recruitment and management. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who want to gain experience with the United States naturalization process, citizenship education, and for those who want to help new and recent immigrants become citizens of the United States.

Casework Internship

The Casework Internship provides an excellent opportunity to get hands on experience with a dynamic non-profit working with the Arab immigrant community. This is excellent preparation for individuals interested in pursuing a career in social work, human services, immigration law or public administration. This is a hands-on introduction to community concerns and addressing them through direct service and advocacy. The ideal candidate will be able to compassionately and efficiently handle cases while strengthening and supporting the community. Fluent English and working Arabic is preferred for this position, and a strong desire to empower and support the Arab-American community is preferred.

Duration: January 2015-June 2015

Adult Education Teaching and Curriculum Internship

The Adult Education Teaching and Curriculum Internship provides an excellent opportunity for educators and aspiring educators to engage and hone their skills in classroom teaching and curriculum development. Our Adult Education program serves adults seeking to learn English and improve their literacy skills. The intern will gain extensive experience and knowledge related to lesson planning and teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL).

Start date and hours:

• The start date for spring classes will be in late January; interns are required to attend training beginning mid January.

• The Adult Education Teaching Intern is expected to commit a minimum of 10 hours/week to the Association including at least 4 hours of class time per week and additional planning, some of which can be done off-site. Interns are asked to be in office two days consecutive days/week Monday-Thursday from either 9-12, 11:30-2:30; 12-3; or 3-6.
